Breckin Meyer; co-star of "Road Trip" - May 16, 2000
CheckOut.com presents actor Breckin Meyer who discusses his film, Road Trip. Meyer, who stars opposite Tom Green, shares some hilarious Tom tales, attending
school with Drew Barrymore and Alicia Silverstone, and his impressive repertoire of films to date.
CheckOut.com: Welcome to a chat with actor Breckin Meyer, star of DreamWorks highly anticipated comedy "Road Trip." The film co-stars Tom Green, Amy Smart,
and Seann William Scott and opens nationwide on Friday, May 19th. Breckin's memorable performances include the feature films "Go," "54," and "Can't Hardly Wait."
Welcome, Breckin Meyer!
Breckin Meyer: I bet you're wondering why I called you here today. I'm that goofy stoner from "Clueless." How are ya doing?
Susan-: I love the previews for "Road Trip." Can you tell me what it's about?
Breckin Meyer: It's about a guy named Josh who's been in a long-term relationship with the same girl since he was five years old, and they attempt to continue
their long-term relationship as a long-distance relationship when they go to separate colleges. But he slips up and has a night of drunken infidelity. The
naughty girl he has this liaison with videotapes it for fun, the videotape gets mailed to my girlfriend by accident, and mayhem ensues.
Roadhog: What has been your favorite project and why?
Breckin Meyer: "Road Trip" is probably my favorite; it was definitely the most fun to work on. The four guys got along famously, and we spent a lot of time
goofing off in Atlanta and playing video games like little kids. A close second would be "Go."
Sonarman: What are your hobbies and interests?
Breckin Meyer: I'm a basketball fanatic - playing and watching - so right now I'm playing ball in a league and watching the Lakers hopefully take the
championship. Basketball has been taking most of my time when I'm not acting. And I've been blowing all my money on Laker tickets!
Purpleangel: Hello, Breckin! What inspired you to start acting?
Breckin Meyer: I watched TV all the time growing up and movies as well, and I would always point at the screen and say I wanted to do that, and it didn't matter
what I was pointing at. It could be pointing at Tom and Jerry. I spend 24 hours a day with myself, so it's kind of fun that I get to be other people as my job.
If you did what I do any other place you'd get arrested!
Purpleangels: How did it come about that you got to play the part of Travis in "Clueless"?
Breckin Meyer: I was asked to audition, and this was a guy I had known my whole life. I had always known these little stoner skater guys. So, when I had to act
like one it wasn't that hard. I just played the guys I grew up with. And I was lucky enough to get the job.
Purpleangel: How does it feel that you got to go to school with Alicia Silverstone and Drew Barrymore? Did they aid in your acting in any way?
Breckin Meyer: No. When I was in school with Drew I was eleven and I was a normal dopey, goofy kid - probably even goofier than most, so I wasn't serious about
acting. I was having fun. And with Alicia, I didn't know her at high school. I wasn't very popular, so I didn't have a lot of friends. So, she was included in
that group of people that I didn't know.
Missy: Are you involved with any special ladies right now?
Breckin Meyer: I am involved with one special lady. She is the writer/director of "Can't Hardly Wait" and she is directing "Josie and the Pussycats" right now,
and we've been together five years as of Sunday.
BozemanT: What films are you working on for the future?
Breckin Meyer: Right now, I am producing an animated short with Seth Greene and Ryan Phillippe, and writing a movie right now. I don't know what I will be acting
in next. I'll probably do another film within the next month or two. I have a production company - Seth and Ryan and I have started writing and producing some
stuff. For a while, we came up with some ideas that we thought were pretty funny that others might find amusing - that's located at sweetjay.com. I don't know if
it's up yet, but that's the website.
CO-LA DigitalBoy: You must have a bunch of great stories about working with Tom Green. What is one of the funniest stories you have about working
with him?
Breckin Meyer: Tom Green is pretty scary. I was scared when I first got on the set. I didn't know what he would do exactly. And he was surprisingly tame
off-screen, but when the camera would roll he would go crazy. The worst thing he did was the scene where he ate the mouse, and at the end of one take the mouse
had gone to the bathroom on his lip. It was pretty funny seeing the 'King of Grossout' be grossed out himself.
Tehya: What are your aspirations as an actor? Will you turn to producing any time soon?
Breckin Meyer: Yeah, I'm definitely producing things on a smaller scale right now, and at some point I'd like to produce films with Seth and Ryan. I think we'll
start doing that in the next five years.
Emmanuelle4: How did you like working in "A Nightmare On Elm Street 6"?
Breckin Meyer: Oh, geez, it was fun. I was a big fan of Freddy at the time, so working in a Freddy movie was pretty much a dream come true for me.
CheckOut: Unfortunately, we've come to the end of our chat. Thank you, Breckin. It's been a pleasure having you here. Any final thoughts you'd like to leave
with us?
Breckin Meyer: I hope everyone likes "Road Trip." If you ever went to college or are thinking of going to college or are in college now, you will definitely
relate to one of the six characters in the film - and if you like Tom Green, that can't hurt, either. Thanks for chatting!
CheckOut.com: Thank you, Breckin, for joining CheckOut.com and Talk City to discuss the release of "Road Trip" from DreamWorks Pictures on Friday, May 19th.
